At ArcGIS 10 ESRI will have a new geoprocessing tool: Multipatch to COLLADA. So workflow becomes “select multipatch, export to DAE (COLLADA), import/edit in SketchUp, save the updated DAE/SKP file, use 3D editing environment to single-click-replace multipatch geometry in the geodatabase”
